Mixed Bag

April 18, 2011

Some time back I stopped posting photos daily because it was, quite frankly, becoming a big pain in the butt having to upload photos each day.
But here are a few random images I’ve been hanging onto.
This first bunch are a few snaps I captured at Lowe’s in their Garden Center.

And then this is my co-worker (and friend!) Tammie. We participated in an after-work exercise group. It was there she posed for this quick pic!

Chowder-Free Boston

April 3, 2011

Mernin’** to you, where ever in the world you may be!
After some “internet issues” that how now been resolved, dry your eyes – I’m back in blogging business.

I’ve just returned home after a terrific week in Boston getting some top-notch, brain-expanding, SQL-learning from Oracle. Although I ate absolutely no chowder whatsoever. How the hell is that even possible?
It was a double-delight as I was able to visit with my sister, Annette, and her family while I was up there.

In an attempt to see how many hyphenated words I can jam into one blog post, I will over-indulge in the use of said hyphenation. Deal with it.

Although I have been continuing with my 365 project, I am so behind on uploading the pics, I am not sure I will ever catch up! But here are a few from my week in Boston….

It even snowed while I was there! I woke up one morning at my sister's to this!

Okay, this just might be my favorite of the bunch - hehe! Griff looks like a total badass!

I just hate that I did not frame this photograph properly - urgh! The missing end of the gun bothers me. Oh, BTW folks, no worries - it's an airgun. Shoots some kind of BBs.

So that’s kind of a round up of my trip to Boston. I loved, loved, loved seeing the architecture and loved, loved, loved hearing all the accents!
Photo-wise, I definitely screwed up my exposure and my focus left something to be desired. As well, my color seems muddy and over-saturated…need to look into that….but I’m practicing and reading and praying to the photo-gods, so I know I’ll get better – just don’t know when!

On my return trip from Boston, I stopped off in Atlanta to attend the Flashbus Tour with David Hobby and Joe McNally. I got to see a few of the Savannah Photo Weekend Workshop ladies: Hi, Sandy, Carrie, and Jennifer!
I learned a tremendous deal and am eager to start kickin’ some major flash!

**MERNIN’ deserves an explanation of its own…will do so at a later time…

Aww, Cheez Whiz, guys…

February 19, 2011

I’ve blogged in the past that I’m Big on the Pig.
But since the new Publix has opened I have not stepped foot into Piggly Wiggly, well, until today.
I had to take this pic – Piggly Wiggly has erected a monument to processed cheese right smack dab in the middle of the dairy aisle.
Cheez Whiz, Piggly Wiggly, you sure know how to build a showstopper!
Another shopper did ask me what I was up to when I pulled out my camera – I told her I wanted a pic of this big ass pile of fake cheese for my blog, she scowled and put some Velveeta in her basket.

Another Park, Another Sunday

February 13, 2011

Doobie Brothers, anyone?
Spent today taking advantage of the wonderful light to get some captures of LillyDee Williams with her ball and did some riding on my bike.

So I got up this morning at the butt-crack of dawn (4AM) to head on over to Tybee Island for the Critz Tybee Run I mentioned in yesterday’s post. It was raining crazy and I considered not going, but only for a second. I figured, “What’s a little water, hmm?”
Considering it was my first 5K, I have absolutely no lung capacity, and overweight I came in at a pretty darn respectable 44:11. Now my shoulder hurts from all the patting myself on the back I’ve been doing ;)
It rained like nobody’s business throughout the race; I spent half the race with my eyes closed to keep the rain out. But I’ve never had a better time. I am already looking to see what 5K I can enter next…
On the way home, I took these shots:

Everything in Stride

February 3, 2011

Our 5K coach, Dave Renton, suggested that we might want to attend a seminar on bio-mechanics of the foot put on by a local running club, The Savannah Striders. Tammie and I attended, got our feet analyzed (I, apparently am flat-footed. So flat-footed the man said I have flippers rather than feet.), and became full-fledged members of the Striders! We are now set up to not only train for the company 5K, but also the upcoming Rock n Roll half marathon. This is a quick pic of the room of runners as we gathered our stuff to leave. There were a ton of people there.

At the Movies

January 28, 2011

So we headed off to the movies tonight and I snapped this pic while we waited for the pre-show commercials to end. Personally, I’m not digging it, but I do like the green on the ceiling and the red of the walls.

Food for Thought

January 27, 2011

Thought I’d take my camera along as I picked up a few things from the grocery store.
By the way, Ezekiel cereal with a splash of almond milk…..mmmm….now that’s some good stuff.

Went to Cracker Barrel tonight for dinner. Hey, don’t knock it til you try it – they have a pretty decent grilled rainbow trout.

Construction Zone

January 25, 2011

Sneak peek of the construction that’s going on in my house. The angle of my lens was not wide enough to capture the whole room, but I promise you there is a built-in bookshelf just to the right of this window that will be flanked by some ever-so-lovely wall sconces. My husband did all this – because he is awesomely talented and because I made pouty faces until he agreed to.
We’ve got a crapload of work still to do…sand and refinish floors, another coat of paint on walls and trim, lighting fixtures, etc. And that’s just in this room alone. I’ll spare you the boring details of the punchlist for all the other rooms.
Yes, that’s a chip clip holding down my temporary paper blinds, don’t be jealous.

Going to the Chapel

January 23, 2011

Hands down the best photo weekend ever. I know I’ve promised in the past couple of days to give some updates, but after a weekend like this…well, geez, I am pooped! Took this one downtown today at St. John’s.

Still no time to fill you in on all the details of this weekend, but I did end up in Bon Adventure Cemetery today.

‘Night, Savannah…

January 21, 2011

Spent the evening downtown doing something really fun and exciting! Will keep you in suspense until tomorrow….in the meantime, I tried another slow shutter speed shot.
savannah

While headed to my knit night, I decided to play around with my shutter speed and try to capture some tail and headlight streaks on the road. I used the hood of my car as a tripod while I attempted several shots at varying speeds. Trust me, this was the best of the bunch. Getting those awesome looking street streaks is much harder than it appears. I will definitely try this technique again when I have more time, but my knitting needles were burning a hole in my knitting bag! And I was getting some mighty strange looks from the patrons of the Quiznos I was standing by. Apparently, sub-eaters are cautious of women with knitting bags and cameras in parking lots.
I didn’t take as much time as I should with the shot. A bit disappointed. Wednesdays are always a hard day for me to take photos.

Hilton Head

January 9, 2011

We went out to Hilton Head today for a quick walk. Took a few snaps of Jason while there, but overall my pics came out way too dark. Need to figure out why…we plan to go back next weekend, so I will try to take more while there and get some better beach shots. We’ll take LillyDee with us and let her run wild.

Worldwide Photowalk

July 25, 2010

On Saturday, I joined 30,000 photographers around the world for the third annual Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk.
Hot and humid doesn’t adequately describe downtown Savannah – by lunchtime I was done and couldn’t get home (and to air conditioning) fast enough. My photos are a bit sucky and I’d like to blame the extreme heat for my poor images, but I think I was simply too tired to get really into the photowalk this year. Or maybe I’m making excuses for my lacking photo skills?City HallSavannah, GAFactor's WalkSouvenirsLittle boy in SavannahRiver StreetWishing fountainWine shop in SavannahGas lanternsBuilding ornamentationFactor's WalkDowntown SavannahStreet cleanerFountainBridge

Paula Deen's

People waiting in the extreme heat in a line that wraps the block. So long of a line, I couldn't capture it all, but the line continues past both corners of the building pictured here. What are they waiting for? To get into Paula Deen's Lady & Sons restaurant, of course!

Happy Trail

June 6, 2010

Jason, LillyDee, and I laced up and headed out to Skidaway. We got a good amount of sun and burned a few calories while out on the trail. LillyDee drank all of our water though. Next time, we are getting her a doggie pack that she can carry herself. I wished I had taken these pics earlier in the morning as the mid-day light is not great for photos, but it is what it is.Skidaway IslandSkidaway IslandSkidaway IslandSkidaway IslandSkidaway IslandSkidaway IslandSkidaway IslandSkidaway IslandSkidaway Island

I hardly ever go out to Richmond Hill, but a bunch of the photos I’m posting on this blog were taken in Richmond Hill. Interesting….and odd.

Lunchtime with Jason

Ate lunch at Panera and Jason romantically sat us by the garbage. Ahhh, even after 14 yrs and he still knows how to woo a girl….apple salad

Just Wait a Day

May 5, 2010

Hanging out and riding around town with my favorite girl. We hit the park while out and I got some snaps of some mossy trees. Not exactly hard to come by in this area :) I’m thinking I may have over-sharpened these. I am using an action that sharpens for the web, but I need to tweak it a bit more.car ride

The Cabinetry Tour

April 13, 2010

Jason took me out to Richmond Hill to take a look at his most recently finished job. Not my favorite that he has done, but nice nonetheless.
I should mention that this is a garage apartment so you can only imagine the house. While there, I decided to take a couple of snaps of the surroundings.
